      <image:title>Journal - The Dress Seeker in Nairobi - Many have commented on the lovely dress that I was recently featured in. Allow me to share the experience of shopping for dresses in Nairobi. You know all about my love for travel. Firstly, shopping is a community event. We went directly to Nguo Affordable which is located in Nairobi CBD (central business district.) We were greeted and immediately, my friend Jane Waithera and I began selecting dress options. We have differing approaches to selecting prints. I quickly surrendered to simply allowing Jane to make choices while I began trying on the ones I liked.</image:title>
      <image:caption>As I emerged in the initial wrap dress, women were quick to offer their opinions about how attractive I looked. An employee adjusted the dress, showing me how to pull one side tight against my body and only then to close the dress and tightly tie the sash. I lost count of how many items I tried on.</image:caption>
    </image:image>
    <image:image>
      <image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/68134598b7f03d228d8f211c/c3f2bd8a-b8ff-4ae8-948f-eafc0fb0d107/WhatsApp+Image+2026-06-30+at+11.15.25+%282%29.jpeg</image:loc>
      <image:title>Journal - The Dress Seeker in Nairobi - Secondly, the one dress everyone vetoed, was in a print of browns and reds which did not suit me. I received a litany of “oh no madam, this one is not good for you.” I was reminded of group shopping with my girl cousins and our mothers. Equally heartwarming, funny, and brutally honest. Thirdly, one of the aspects of being in Kenya that I absolutely love is how women embrace color regardless of their age. I am a fan of color and I hope this never changes.</image:title>
      <image:caption>Lastly came the negotiating of price. While I have become better at haggling, I knew I was far out of my league and stepped back so Jane could advocate on my behalf. I emerged with a new wardrobe. Here are just a few of my favorites. The dress featured with the painting Becoming Oneself is my absolute favorite. I especially love the print, colors as well as the neckline. This was my initial wearing as I knew I needed to have a special occasion in mind. What better an occasion than the unveiling of the painting?</image:caption>

      <image:title>Journal - Artistic Collaboration in the Age of the Divine Feminine Uprising / Collective - Natalie’s vision was tied in with the International Albinism Awareness Day’s theme for the year: “proudly in my skin, celebrating all skin tones.”</image:title>
      <image:caption>To have that vision represented by Tess in the finished painting was something that took even Natalie by surprise, and Natalie, as an artist herself, is generous with praise.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Journal - Artistic Collaboration in the Age of the Divine Feminine Uprising / Collective - Representation in art is sometimes discussed as though it is primarily about optics. But this is authenticity as a collaborative practice rather than a solo performance. It is the belief that the truest version of a story often requires more than one voice to hold it steady.</image:title>
      <image:caption>What Natalie and Tess have done with this painting is older and more urgent than just representation for the sake of it.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Journal - Parenting with albinism - Through my daughter, I have learned a multitude of life lessons. Parenting with albinism has been one of the best and most challenging adventures of my life. Of course, my girl walked at nine months old. Of course, she climbed shortly thereafter. Of course, my vision was taxed to the max whenever we went to any of her favorite playgrounds. I established rules like, "if you can't see me, you are lost." And "if I call you, you must come to mommy straight away."</image:title>
      <image:caption>In all honesty, this was the easiest aspect of parenting because young children are mostly cooperative.</image:caption>
    </image:image>
    <image:image>
      <image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/68134598b7f03d228d8f211c/fa3a972d-7e7d-439b-ae9e-d2a416d719f9/WhatsApp+Image+2026-05-06+at+10.48.27+%282%29.jpeg</image:loc>
      <image:title>Journal - Parenting with albinism - I remember, on our journey home, my mom was being especially annoying. And I was over it, if only I could remember what exactly she was doing or saying so I could look back and see how ridiculous I was being. All I know is I was done and my little 16-year-old brain told me to walk off and leave her to her own devices.</image:title>
      <image:caption>I walked maybe 30 feet away from my mommy and I turned to realize she couldn't see me. And all I saw was fear. Imagine a huge hub airport with thousands upon thousands of people hurrying by, late for flights and trying to make connections. And there was my mommy with our luggage looking around, panicked that she could not see me. If my mom was anyone else, if she didn't have albinism, she would've seen me and probably ran over, grabbed my hand, and scolded me. But she didn't. She couldn't.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Journal - Parenting with albinism - Jewel and I have a wonderful relationship. I’ve come to learn that parenting does not cease when children head off to college; it just looks different. I am her mentor, her friend, and her mom. Our conversations are varied and full of depth.</image:title>

      <image:title>Journal - Natalie’s Travelogues: Destination Panama - What made the difference, as it so often does, was my people. Traveling with a group is its own kind of grace. My companions knew about my vision needs, and they took that knowledge seriously. They became my second pair of eyes without ever making me feel like a burden. That is a gift I do not take lightly.</image:title>
      <image:caption>Before I even packed my bags, I had made another kind of preparation. I contacted SOS Albinos, the organization supporting people with albinism in Panama, and arranged to bring a substantial donation of sunscreen with me. Sunscreen.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Journal - Natalie’s Travelogues: Destination Panama - The second stretch was a bar. A club. Not typically my scene, and I say that without apology, because we are all allowed our preferences.</image:title>
      <image:caption>But I went. I showed up, I stayed, I participated in the particular joy that comes from people gathered together in a loud room choosing to celebrate being alive. And that, too, was something. Panama gave me community, history, purpose, and a healthy reminder that the sun is not to be trifled with. It reminded me why I travel: not simply to see places, but to experience what it means to move through the world as myself, fully and without apology.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Journal - Natalie’s Travelogues - Destination Scotland - Solo travel is essentially a daily dare. I walked to the train station on one day, not because I needed to go anywhere, but just to know where it was. And another day, when I was at the Inverness train station, I worked the ticketing machine entirely by myself. Now, I know how that might sound to someone reading this. Small, maybe? It is not small. It is enormous. It's the kind of win I tuck into my pocket and carry around all day.</image:title>
      <image:caption>I did end up approaching the information booth, a little puzzled about why the machine had spat out four separate tickets. The fellows there were friendly and sorted me out cheerfully. No drama, just good people doing their jobs well. Navigation-wise, Apple Maps has become my faithful companion as I wander the earth. Between that and my growing confidence asking strangers for directions, I'm managing beautifully. Solo travel has this wonderful way of making bravery non-negotiable. You ask. You figure it out. You are occasionally, gloriously lost. And that's fine too.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Journal - Natalie’s Travelogues – Paris Chronicles #1 - The summer of 1987, I visited France for 5 weeks. My first joy upon arriving at Orly Airport was how easy it was for me to read the signage. My experience with flying at that time had been limited to short domestic flights.</image:title>

      <image:title>Journal - Natalie’s Travelogues – Paris Chronicles #1 - By the end of week 2, I was comfortable with the metro. Did I get lost? Absolutely. Did I learn to ask for help en francais? Bien sur.</image:title>
      <image:caption>I spoke French, and yet, I lacked confidence. My need for help trumped my embarrassment in fracturing the language. The only downside to losing my glasses was the additional strain I placed on my eyes. Sometimes this led to headaches.</image:caption>
