Becoming Oneself: My Journey
In the concluding instalment of Natalie Devora’s series on representation of albinism in art, Natalie traces her own journey, the greatest of them all: becoming oneself.
Proudly in My Skin: A Conversation with Tess
In part 2 of her series on representing albinism in art, Natalie Devora features the conversation she had with artist and painter Teresa (Tess) Njeri Mugo. A free-wheeling chat about artistic process, authenticity in art, and feminism, Natalie delves deep into the artistic collaboration.
Parenting with albinism
On the occasion of Mother’s Day, in this blog post, originally shared on Medium, Natalie traces her journey as a mother with albinism. This poignant essay, authored by both Natalie and her daughter, Jewel Devora, features reflections from Jewel who writes about her own experience of being daughter to a mother with albinism.
“Black Girl, White Skin: A Life in Stories is the The Color Purple and Push of our time. Natalie Devora’s memoir shows the painful connection between misogynoir, colorism and sexual abuse in the Black community. But she sheds light on these issues from an angle we don’t discuss enough — as a person living with albinism. While Black Girl, White Skin is a powerful and moving account about trauma, Devora gives us hope that we can still make it after surviving our darkest moments.”
